Cold-Formed Steel Trusses – Who Does What?

SPEAKER:      Mr. Bill Babich P.E., Director of Engineering for    TrusSteel, an ITW Company

Speaker’s Biography:  Bill is the Director of Engineering for the TrusSteel Division of ITW Building Component Group, Inc. and has more than 24 years of experience in the pre-fabricated truss industry.  Bill has been involved in the cold-formed steel truss industry for 13 years.  In that time he has been involved with the industry on many different levels within organizations such as; CFSEI, CFSC, AISI/COFS, and the SFA.  He currently holds the positions of AISI/COFS Truss Subcommittee chairman, Vice President of CFSEI, and is a member of the CFSEI Florida Chapter board of directors.

Topic Description: Pre-fabricated cold-formed steel trusses have evolved over the past 15 years into a fast growing sector of the cold-formed steel structural framing industry.  The industry has taken many turns along the way and standards are in continuous development to make it easier to design and specify these pre-fabricated components.  This short presentation will highlight the state of the industry and discuss the divisions of labor between all interested parties to insure a properly designed roof structure.  Topics of discussion will include all aspects of a pre-fabricated truss roof structure, including; truss-to-truss connections, truss-to-bearing connections, diaphragm connections, truss design, and truss bracing.
